The holiday season is normally a time of joy and family bonding, but for some, this isn’t the case. We know that holidays can be stressful, anxiety-inducing, and depressing due to many different factors. Aside from those who stay in our residential facilities in Minneapolis, we know there are others who are at home and trying to cope. Here are some tips to get you through the next couple of months.
Continue Attending Therapy
If you are in therapy right now, don’t cancel your appointments during the holidays. We know how overwhelming and busy the season can be, and your therapy sessions are here to help you through it all.
Stay Mindful
Mindfulness is considered a great and valuable mental wellness tool. You can participate in specific practices to help you if you are traveling or not following your normal routine. Search for mindfulness apps on your phone—you’ll be surprised at what you can find.
Keep Your Realistic Expectations
Holidays are known to lead you to reflect on this past year—from failures to massive accomplishments. Don’t think about where you “should be” in life as that can only make you feel more negative or anxious. Instead, set realistic goals for the future—such as participating in more exercise a few times a week.
