Working Through Relationship Problems During COVID-19

Published on July 20th, 2020

If you and your loved one are facing difficulties since the outbreak of coronavirus, know that this is completely normal. Before the outbreak, each of you had your own schedules and spent the majority of your days apart at work. Now, couples have been forced to spend every moment together, ultimately putting relationships to the test. While your relationship may get stronger in some ways, it’s only natural that you’re experiencing some hiccups along the way as well. In addition to adding couples counseling in Minneapolis to your arsenal, consider the following tips to emerge from quarantine as a stronger, happier couple.

Small Fights Mean You Should Communicate More

Have you and your significant other been bickering more often? This is completely normal. From getting frustrated about the wifi going out in the apartment or bickering about whose turn it is to handle the dishes, small issues can take on a bigger meaning. If you find yourself in this situation, it’s a sign that you need to work on your communication with one another. Make sure to address issues head-on as they come to light rather than letting them linger for days or even weeks.

Increased Stress Requires More Relaxation

Anxiety levels are high right now, so if you and your partner are feeling a bit overwhelmed, make sure to go out of your way to get the time for yourself that you need. Living through a pandemic requires a mindful approach to your mental wellbeing. Try cooking up a new recipe, taking on a new hobby like sewing or baking, or get into a new book series. Set a recurring reminder on your phone to have a date night at least once per week to spend quality time with one another.

Add Couples Counseling to Your Routine

Couples counseling in Minnesota doesn’t have to be a bad thing. In fact, it can be a great asset to your relationship. While counseling typically has a negative connotation, many strong couples are surprised to find how beneficial counseling can be. Our team at River Ridge is happy to help teach you new skills to help your relationship thrive.
