Men’s Recovery Program
River Ridge has developed a groundbreaking program for addressing the unique challenges that men face in early recovery.
Utilizing a new curriculum developed by Dr. Stephanie Covington, Dan Griffin, and Rick Dauer, the “Helping Men Recover” program looks at addiction and recovery through the lens of masculine experience. HMR is structured as a gradual step-down program. During the first phase, groups meet on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 6:00-9:00 for a period of six weeks. The second phase groups meet on Monday and Friday, 6:00-9:00, for three weeks. The third phase groups meet on Thursday from 6:00-8:00 for twelve weeks.
Groups are augmented by individual counseling sessions, concerned person conferences, and bi-weekly educational lectures. Participants receive basic alcohol and drug education, and also learn sober living skills and relapse prevention strategies. The Men’s Recovery Program has proven effective with men of all ages, cultural backgrounds, and socio-economic status. Men with histories of criminal behavior, multiple treatment episodes, co-occurring mental health disorders, or trauma histories have especially benefitted from participation. This program is currently only offered at the Burnsville location.
