River Ridge recognizes the special needs of women in early recovery.
We offer a unique and innovative program to meet those needs based on the research of Dr. Stephanie Covington. The “Helping Women Recover” program offers basic drug and alcohol education, gender specific cognitive skills training, relapse prevention strategies, and long-term sobriety maintenance planning. The program utilizes lectures, group sessions, individual sessions, family involvement, case management, and referrals to other health care and social services. Three-hour group sessions meet twice per week for a period of twelve weeks.
All groups are co-facilitated by two licensed clinicians with experience in addressing women’s issues. Participants then step down to a customized Recovery Maintenance Program for an additional twelve weeks. The Covington curriculum has proven effective with women involved in the criminal justice system, recidivist clients, women who have trauma histories, and women with co-occurring mental health disorders. The Women’s Recovery Program in Burnsville meets on Wednesday evenings from 6:00-9:00 and on Saturday morning from 9:00-noon.
